Description

(−) Epigallocatechin (EGC), a type of green tea polyphenol, has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. But its mechanism of action is unclear. We found here that EGC strongly inhibits the growth of breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231), but has no inhibitory effect on normal breast epithelial cells. Inhibition of breast cancer cell growth is due to the induction of apoptosis without changing the cell cycle progression.
